Honoree: GO Community Impact Award
Congratulations Tracey Hecht!
The GO Community Impact Award recognizes Tracey Hecht and her team at Fabled Films Press, who—through their partnerships with GO and education organizations across the country—have shown an unwavering commitment to strengthening school outcomes across subjects, fostering social and emotional learning, and making reading a joyful shared experience for all students and families.
Tracey Hecht is a writer and the creative director of Fabled Films Press, which creates award-winning books for young readers and middle-grade audiences. Author of The Nocturnals, the critically acclaimed middle-grade and early reader series, she understands the value of education and the central role that reading plays in it.
Serving as supportive community leaders, Hecht and the team at Fabled Films Press created a menu of educational resources for teachers and librarians to use alongside her books to further students’ literacy and social-emotional learning. Hecht and the team also partnered with the New York Public Library to create a Read Aloud Writing Program that has been used in hundreds of schools and libraries nationwide, making literacy more inviting and informing individuals on the unexpected benefits of reading aloud.
Hecht has made a direct impact at GO by enriching our programming and directly connecting with both students and families. Hecht and Fabled Films Press donated The Nocturnals books and led a workshop with GO students during the 2024 summer session. Additionally, Hecht has been working with translators and GO families in ongoing multilingual workshops focused on
reading, empowering families, and highlighting the critical role that the family plays in a child’s education.
“The GO Project is unique in that you actually see the difference it is making in these families’ lives,” says Hecht. “It is unlike other organizations in that the direct impact is measurable and the change visible in every interaction I have within the GO community. It is a testament to GO’s mission—watching the growth of the students and their caregivers is truly something special.”
Hecht’s service to her community doesn’t stop at GO. She has shared her passion for literacy throughout multiple projects, including leading a webinar for the American Association of School Librarians on the benefits of reading aloud, working with the Quebec Writers’ Federation to expand their diverse writers’ program, and appearing as a panelist for the American Booksellers Association’s ABC Children’s Institute, where she focused on running successful virtual author visits.
Hecht doesn’t just inspire others to keep learning, she is driven to continue growing in the realm of education herself. Currently she is attending Bank Street College, where she is studying to receive her Dual Masters in Childhood and Special Education. She is an admired member of the GO community and an exceptional advocate for literacy and education for the community at large. You can show your support through a donation to fuel GO Project’s work to create educational equity for NYC students.
